Daffodils: More than You Think

                               Daffodils

Hi, this is Sabine talking, and me and my brother Aidan are going to freshen up your knowledge about daffodils. Sometimes known as narcissus or jonquil, this cheerful flower is part of the Amaryllis family. Narcissus is the general name of the species, whereas jonquil is more specific. A jonquil's numerous yellow blooms are very perfumed and tend to grow in warmer, southern regions. Every other type of flower in the narcissus genus is referred to as a daffodil, apart from paper whites, which are lilies, though still in the narcissus species.

2nd: purple daffodil
Hello, this is Aidan here. There are at least 25 different species of daffodil, each varied in color, size, and number of petals. More than 13,000 species have been made by man, each coming in a variety of colors, for example pink, blue, purple, and even red. Here are a couple pictures:

Usually, daffodils are 6-20 inches in height, with 1-20 blooms. They are native to Europe, northern Africa, western Asia, and the Mediterranean.

Fun Fact
The daffodil is the national flower of
Wales, and it is traditional to wear one on St. David's Day.

Daffodils are almost always grown from bulbs, but occasionally from black, rounded, seeds. this is what they look like:

1st: Daffodil seeds2nd: Daffodil bulbs                                              The leaf and bulb of the daffodil have a toxic alkaloid called lycorine that keeps deer and rabbits away, but not some insects. There is also another substance in the bulb of the flower called Narciclasine that, according to some theories, is a remedy for breast cancer.

The most common flower that is confused with daffodils is the buttercup, which actually is very different. for example:     Daffodil                                                 Buttercup   1.Blooms in spring                                 1.Blooms spring through summer

Opinions and favorites:

Hi, it's me, Sabine. My favorite color daffodil is the white with pink corona, or maybe light blue. My favorite one that is not manmade is the pure white.

Hey, this is Aidan, and my favorite natural daffodil is the orange with white corona, and my favorite manmade one is the dragon type.
